I hope you get the advice you want Paul. Obviously I don't know, or need to know, your issue but all I can say is that from my own experience if you feel you need to tell DVSA something then don't leave it too long. They hate to see something that looks like it's being covered up.
Whatever the problem is if you tell them quickly at least you're seen to be doing the right thing.
